Co-Chair Kingston Maternity Services Liaison Committee

Board Member SW London & Surrey Downs Maternity Network (stategic network comprising 5 hospitals' Heads of Midwifery, Consultant Obstetricians and key maternity staff)

Having experienced two very different pregnancies and births in the early 1990s, Rosie became acutely aware of the extent to which our experience of pregnancy and birth affects us post natally, affects our mothering and impacts on our babies.  How we approach pregnancy and birth emotionally, and how we are treated by our care providers during an emotionally and physiologically vulnerable period, is critical in determining how we experience birth and how we cope thereafter.

Fulfilling various roles within the NCT, Rosie delivered highly successful NCT Post Natal courses in Wimbledon & Wandsworth throughout the 1990s which focused on mothers' emotional and physical wellbeing. She has continued this work with BabyCalmTM teaching.  In 2003 Rosie qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Solution Focused Brief Therapist, (Human Givens Model), having trained with Mark Tyrrell of Uncommon Knowledge, at the forefront of effective, positive psychology (at the time based at Sussex University), in order to provide highly effective therapies for a range of conditions.

These include the reduction of stress and stress related disorders such as panic attacks and sleep problems; anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), OCD.

Rosie is interested in only what is effective, and is one of the earliest exponents and practitioners of the 'Rewind Technique': a successful therapeutic intervention, which is now recognised by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) as highly effective in the reduction of PTSD symptoms.

Focusing her energies on pregnancy, birth and beyond, Rosie has used the 'Rewind Technique' extensively in her general practice. She has helped many women to release the difficult emotions and feelings attached to a traumatic life experience, miscarriage or birth, enabling women to face pregnancy and birth maybe for the first time, maybe for the second time, or to be able to look back on their experiences with a degree of calm.

"Thank you for seeing my client following her traumatic first birth. Your hypnotherapy is having a good effect on her"  B Claussen. Senior Teaching & Consultant Obstetrician . The Portland Hospital

"I was dreading birth and now I'm excited. Thank you so much".  Claire, 41, pregnant again 20 years after a traumatic birth and multiple miscarriages.  Such transformations are possible.

Rosie is one of the UKs most experienced Hypnobirthing Specialists having taught over 2000 couples since 2004, trained by Marie Mongan, the founder of the HypnoBirthing Institute. Rosie has been highly active in promoting and teaching Hypnobirthing to midwives, obstetricians, GPs, psychologists and other medical staff, both privately as clients, and also running workshops and study sessions in hospitals. www.hypnobirthingworks.co.uk. Rosie was at the launch of, and is a supporter of the Jentle Birth Foundation, based at Queen Charlotte's. She was instrumental in setting up the UK HypnoBirthing Group at the Baby Show and in running HB Study Days.

She is a member of NCT Riverside,  Co-Chair of Kingston MSLC (Maternity Services Liaison Committee) and Board Member SW London & Surrey Downs Maternity Network (stategic network comprising 5 hospitals' Heads of Midwifery, Consultant Obstetricians and key maternity staff), shaping Maternity services in London.

Rosie writes articles on Hypnobirthing; the benefits of a normal birth and has contributed to TV programmes related to birth. Rosie lives in London.

Rosie's Birth Stories

Dan was lying posterior and resulted in the 'cascade in of interventions'.  A distressed baby, ending in a traumatic, forceps delivery. My body was physically traumatised and emotionally I was numb.  Fortunately in 1990 community midwives visited daily for ten days and ongoing when needed. Due to a breast abcess (requiring 2 further days in hospital), my community midwife visited every day for six weeks to dress the wound. I realise now how very fortunate I was in the support I received which I'm sure prevented me slipping into depression. I determined that if I was ever going to give birth again, then it would have to be as soon as I could face it. So... 18 months later and pregnant again with Jack.

When Jack was lying breech (!) despite acupuncture, I was determined to take control and equip myself for a good birth - a good birth for me and a good birth for him. I knew we were capable of a normal, breech birth.  Two local hospitals only offered a c-section, but another, St Helier, Carshalton, were happy to support us. "Come here. It's not a problem", they said. And from that moment on, filled with confidence, we floated on air. I went on to enjoy a wonderful birth and happy early days. (Jack arrived bottom first).

It became increasingly clear to me how my attitude and the attitude of my caregivers had impacted on my emotional wellbeing and physical condition, resulting in two very different experiences.

" I am passionate about supporting women and their partners through life changing times. Empathising when things have gone badly, and offering proven, effective therapy to let go of past trauma.   Empowering, inspiring and enabling clients to embrace an optimistic future"
